Working from your own observation, quick sketches, and photos, students will create an acrylic painting on canvas using a layered glazing method. Covered areas include concept sketches, underpainting development, and building spatial illusion through layered glazes of acrylic paint. Composition will remain an important focus throughout all steps. This class will encourage review and discussion both during development and after completion.

Includes:

·     Zoom class every other Thursday 12:30pm – 2pm (3 total)

·     Weekly online painting demonstration with ongoing Voicethread posting option.

·     2 hour end of class group critique

(All online meetings and videos will be recorded and available for student’s review and reference, therefore it is not required that you attend the Zoom classes.)

Zoom is free and easy to use. You will receive an invitation from the instructor for each session. Voicethread is a visual art program the instructor utilizes that is also easy to use – simple name and e-mail free sign-in.

Class Dates: Begins week of Sept. 7th

Ages: 14-Adult

Cost: $90 + $135 supply kit (supplies may also be purchased separately)

Duration: 6 weeks

The supply kit is priced at about a 20% discount. Anyone in class will receive 10% off of additional supplies at Howard’s for the duration of class. Howard's can arrange curbside pick up and/or delivery (on a location by location basis).

About the teacher:

David Bottini brings over 32 years of experience teaching art and a lifetime working as a professional artist to teaching beginner and emerging artists. He studied painting at the The Rhode Island School of Design, The Maryland Institute, and earned his MFA from The Savannah College of Art & Design.

Bottini’s paintings are featured in national art publications and his paintings are exhibited and collected throughout the United States. He has been part of the Cumberland Valley Juried Exhibit for 2018, 2019 and was the Peoples Choice award recipient for the 2018 and 2019 Cumberland Valley Exhibit. His work is on exhibit locally at Bridge Gallery in Shepherdstown, WV.
